Contains photographs of the following military units: 2nd United States (U.S.) Cavalry Regiment; Company (Co.) E, 29th Engineers; 1540th Base Survey Co. / 1540th Engineers. General description of the collection: The R.C. Bentley photograph collection consists of three subjects. A small grouping deals with the 2nd U.S. Cavalry Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas, in 1935, mostly showing the unit on maneuvers at that post. A larger group of photos deal with the surveying and construction of the Alcan Highway. Bridge building, engineer equipment and vehicles, and soldier life on the construction sites and in cold weather camps are vividly depicted in these photos. The third group consists of photos of the Japanese surrender in the Philippines and the war crimes trials there.
